Originally from Mississippi, USA, Caitlin came to the UK to study BA Museum Studies and Archaeology with International Foundation Year due to the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s close connections to industry.
“This is not only an educational opportunity but one that allows me to see more of the world and meet new people. Attending university in a location so close to some of the most important museums in the UK is such an exciting experience. Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ has been such an amazing place to start my career.”
International Foundation Year
As an international student, Caitlin decided to take a four-year programme with an integrated International Foundation Year (Year 0) to equip her with subject-specific and general study skills needed to cope with the demands of undergraduate study. It also served as a prime opportunity to meet other international students going through the same experience.
“I was familiar with writing descriptive and informative essays; however, having support and guidance with essay writing was been beneficial. I took three optional modules alongside my core modules, which was really enjoyable as I could choose the modules I knew I would get the most out of, like ‘Perspective in the Humanities’. Each week we were taught a new topic, which I could carry through to Year 1 of my degree.”
First impressions
Caitlin instantly felt part of the close-knit community within the Department and was able to immerse herself in the multitude of resources available.
“The community in the Archaeology department is so wonderful. Everyone I have met has been so welcoming and kind. They are always willing to lend a helping hand.
“The collections available in the are amazing. It is a very hands-on and immersive environment, which allows students to get a glimpse of what working in the museum industry is really like.”
